The kids picked out 3 pieces of candy to keep and turned the rest over to me and Brandon. In return, they got to pick out a toy from the store. Katelyn chose a horse with a carrying purse and Tanner got a tool set.

The Trade
I hate the big buckets of candy the kids get on Halloween. It's definitely fun to gather it, we love trick or treating and showing off the costumes. But within a day or two I was tired of the kids constantly asking for the candy. So we decided to carry on a tradition I always had growing up.

I am keeping the candy that we like and will still let them have treats now and then, but this way I have control of it. They don't constantly get into it and ask for candy because they gave it up when they got their toy. It's not "their" candy anymore. It has been wonderful!

Smart mom
I like it!!! That is the same tool box that Whitley just gave Tyler for his birthday!!! Tyler LOVES his! You should bring Tanners next time you come and the boys can work together fixing everything that isn't broken and doesn't need to be fixed!!
That is a great idea!
I love this idea, Jess. I'm totally doing that next year. I hate having candy around for so long. You're such a smart mom. Looks like a win-win for everyone.
That's such a good idea! And nice that you get some candy too :)
