Meet Chirp
One morning the kids followed me outside when I took out the trash. We came across a snail on our front porch. Naturally, they built him a nest and named him Chirp.
We're talking DELUXE nest, here. Can you see Chirp in this picture? He kind of blends in with the bark...

They were so excited to have this pet snail and talked about him all morning. They kept asking if they could go outside to check on him. About an hour had passed and we went back out to find that Chirp had left our front porch to explore the big exciting world. Sadness at our house.

Which he then escaped soon after.
But Katelyn decided that it was okay for him to go explore the world. There is a lot to see outside of his nest, after all.
I would like to issue a warning to all snails in the area to beware of my children and their desire to "help"......Although this is a better pet than what my brother-in-law Travis caught when he was a kid. I'd much rather have a pet snail than a pet MOTH! Legend has is that Travis caught a moth when he was young and named it Marvin after his dad. I guess a snail on the front porch isn't so bad. At least they didn't name it Jess!!

I had totally forgotten about Marvin Moth!!! I remember how proud he was of catching it and how happy he thought Dad would be to find out that he had someone named after him!! I so glad you reminded me of that!! Travis was such a funny kid!!
SOOOO sweet! You have such funny kids! I can't wait to see what mine will do one day....Love ya!
Isn't it so cute that kids just want to take care of everything, no matter how slimy or disgusting it might be!! The other day, Maddie caught a potato bug & named it Wally. She made a home for him & everything. She even wrote a song about him & sang it to him:) I have to say that you are braver than I am. I would have drawn the line at a snail, I hate the little buggers!
